WHAT’S A LIFE PROGRAMME?

LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental projects.


LIFE+ funds operations which contribute to the development and implementation of Community environmental policy and legislation.

 

This financial instrument also aims to promote the integration of the environment into other policies, and to contribute to sustainable development within the European Union.

 

The LIFE+ phase running from 2007-2013 have an overall budget of approximately €1.7 billion for nature conservation projects, environmental technology and communication.

 

The Nature & Biodiversity component continues and extends the former LIFE Nature program.

 

It will co-finance :
- best practice and/or demonstration projects that contribute to the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives (Council Directives 79/409/CEE and 92/43/CEE) within the Natura 2000 network (LIFE+ Nature projects)
- it will co-finance innovative and/or demonstration projects that contribute to the implementation of the objectives of Commission Communication on "Halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010 – and beyond" (LIFE + Biodiversity projects).
